Tiffany Mills from Ryston takes Norfolk Ladies' title in exciting final at Eaton Golf Club

The Norfolk Ladies’ County Golf Championship was this year held at Eaton Golf Club on Friday 10th to Sunday 12th May. The final on Sunday 12th was contested by Harriet Allsebrook from Hunstanton and Tiffany Mills from Ryston Park.

A fantastic match of exciting golf and birdies galore, the first 9-holes were neck and neck, the pair being all square at the turn. This continued for the next few holes, Mills then sank a 25ft putt on the 15th to halve the hole and pulled away to win the next two holes, the match and Championship on the 17th hole, 2/1.

“It’s a dream come true to have won this tournament as have been runner-up twice and entering for 14 years. I owe everything to my friend and caddy Ann Fletcher”.

Monday it will be back to work for Tiffany, the greenkeeper at Ryston Park Golf Club, with her next major competition, the Critchley Salver Open at Sunningdale Golf Club, the following week.

The Championship was played over three glorious days of back to back sunshine with a field of 26 with handicaps ranging from +1.6 – 14. The first day was 36-hole stroke play: the winner of both the Lady Betty Trafford Cup (36-hole scratch) and Hannaford Cup (36-hole handicap) was Harriet Allsebrook from Hunstanton with a gross 145 and nett 147 and the Team Trophy went to Bawburgh (Jill Gooch, Doris Thomas & Christine Frazer).

The best 16 gross scores went through to the match-play knockout on the Saturday and Sunday.

Semi-finals: Allsebrook beat Leeder 2/1, Mills beat Herd 1-up

Final: Allsebrook v Mills

Carol Delf, President of the Norfolk Ladies’ County Golf Association, brought the Championship to a close by thanking Eaton Golf Club for being an excellent host with special thanks to the greenkeepers for the fantastic condition of the course and to Kay Bailey, Lady Captain, and her ladies for all their support.
