The Norfolk Ladies’ County Golf Championship was this year held at Barnham Broom Golf Club on Friday 9th to Sunday 11th May. The final on Sunday 11th was contested by Harriet Allsebrook from Hunstanton against Tracey Wiliamson from Sheringham.
A fantastic match of exciting golf and birdies galore, with Allsebrook two up at the turn. Williamson birdied 15thto take her back to one down, then Allsebrook responded with a bridie putt to win 16th taking to the match to dormie. Allsebrook lost 17th, but then won the match and Championship on the 18th, 1 up.
“It has been an incredible three days of golf, a real an honour to play against England player and nine times County Champion Williamson in the final”.
The Championship was played over three glorious days with a field of 28 with handicaps ranging from +1.6 – 14. The first day was 36-hole stroke play: the winner of the Lady Betty Trafford Cup (36-hole scratch) was Gemma de Feu from Thetford with a gross 154, the Hannaford Cup (36-hole handicap) was Rebecca Shubrook from Royal Norwich with a nett 149 and the Team Trophy went to Royal Norwich (Rebecca Shubrook, Annabel Blake & Sarah Palmer).
The best 16 gross scores went through to the match-play knockout on the Saturday and Sunday. It was on the Saturday that Williamson had a hole-in-one on the 7th, shot that drop straight down the flag into the hole.
