Tiffany Mills, greenkeeper at Ryston Park, will be heading to The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass from 6th–15th March, as one of five representatives from the UK and the only English female joining a team of more than 100 greenkeepers from around the world.

Each year, The British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), together with premium partner John Deere, provides members with the opportunity to apply to be part of the volunteer agronomy team.
“This was my third year of applying. At first, I was nervous about applying as I thought, ‘I’m not from a well-known course,’ but in the end I decided there was no harm in trying!”
Tiffany went through a two-step application process. The first stage involved submitting a four-minute video explaining why she wanted to be selected and how the experience would further her career. Applications were then divided into regions, followed by an interview at John Deere’s headquarters in Nottinghamshire, where Tiffany represented the Central Region. One candidate per region was selected.
She is by no means a newcomer to volunteering at major international events. In 2019, she worked at The Solheim Cup at Gleneagles; in 2022, The Open at St Andrews; and in 2023, The Women’s Open at Walton Heath.
“There’s nothing more exhilarating than preparing a golf course for the best golfers in the world. The attention to detail at these events is incredible and something you only truly experience when working at the biggest tournaments.”
There will be more than 100 greenkeepers from around the world at Sawgrass, and Tiffany is yet to find out which role she will undertake. “It’s going to be long days and really hard work, but I can’t wait to get over there now!”
The year has already started at a busy pace for Tiffany, following her appointment as Norfolk Ladies’ County Captain in November. Her team will be defending their East Region title in June at St Ives in Cambridgeshire.
